5 “Man Friendly”Crockpot Meals

Ever stuck for ideas on what to make for dinner? Want to make something yummy and nutritious that doesn’t involve spending too much time in the kitchen? This is literally me every time I meal plan for the week. I look on pinterest all the time to find easy dinner ideas that work for my family..and I always lean towards the ones that you can throw in the crockpot/ slow cooker without too much effort. To be honest, I don’t think I could live  without my trusty crockpot! I probably use it too much, but the less time I spend preparing dinner.. the better!  While I love my crockpot, my partner just hates it .. He says that food just doesn’t taste the same, and after reading a few forums I started to realize that it wasn’t just my man that isn’t a fan..its seems to be most of the male population.

Below are 5 of our favourite crockpot meals.. That the man of the house ACTUALLY likes (and he’s the fussiest eater I know)..Most of these meal hacks are just meat, but I could serve them up every day and the other half would be happy. I like to prep any veges to go with the meal while I’m prepping the meat for the crockpot, and then I do rice in our Tupperware rice cooker (another life saver) if that’s what we’re having. Not only are these meals delicious, they’re also a great way to make meat stretch further and lower the grocery bill.

Crockpot Favourites

  1. Pulled Pork – Super easy to prep. I like to serve this with coconut rice and veges, and then the left overs can be used for sandwiches or buns the next day. If you use a shoulder pork roast you can make enough meat to freeze for at least 2 more dinners and 2 lunches.

  2. Pulled Beef – Another crowd pleaser, this goes with anything! Whether it’s with veges and rice, potatoes, cous cous etc You name it, Ive tried it. You can use the cheapest cut of beef for this meal as well, and you’ll still get amazing, soft meat.

  3. Teriyaki Chicken – I use 4 chicken breasts and manage to get 2 dinners ( rice & veges one night, pizzas the next), and 2 man sized lunches out of it!

This crock pot teriyaki chicken is INCREDIBLE. The honey teriyaki sauce is out of this world and it only takes 10 minutes to prep! The perfect easy, healthy dinner. @wellplated:

  4. Lamb casserole -A winter favourite that can be made using cheap chuck steak.I love making dumplings and adding them into the crockpot as well.  Just place tinfoil over the top and pop the lid on half an hour before the meal is ready.

  5. BBQ and honey drumsticks– A new favourite of ours! The meat falls right of the bone and you actually get a decent amount compared to if you were to bake them.
These Slow Cooker Honey BBQ Chicken Drumsticks are WAY EASY, but so delicious! Serve them on gameday or for an easy family dinner!

Supporting Small Businesses- Our top 5.

If you’ve seen my Instagram account, you would know that I LOVE supporting small businesses! I love the personal touch that they give to each product and its packaging. I also love that I can message back and forth with any questions I have. I like to know what I’m buying, and sometimes I like something a little different to what everyone else might have. Small businesses provide excellent customer service and create some amazing products that cant be found in store. Most small businesses are hard working mothers, taking time out of their lives to create beautiful hand made items. You know where the product has come from, and you know who has made it. There’s just something special about buying small compared to going into a shop and buying something that you don’t know much about.

When it comes to kids clothes, I am fussy ( especially when it comes to buying for my son.. no thankyou crazy colours and unflattering prints!) . I’m always looking for something a bit different, something that is affordable and well made. I want clothing that is child friendly and will last longer than a few weeks without going out of shape, fading or ripping etc.  Below I will list our top 6 small clothing businesses and what we love about them.

  1. Goblin Baby Wear : I absolutely love the simple, comfortable clothing that this lady creates. I’m a huge fan of the grey marle and stripes, and I’m also loving the new blush collection that is available. Goblin Babywear was one of the first small business that I ordered from when my son was born, and recently I had a custom order made for the kids. I’m one of those mums that likes her kids to match sometimes 🙊
  2. Gypsy Pirate: If you’re looking for super cool threads for the whole family, Gypsy Pirate have what you need. We have a few items from here and love their originality! My daughter and I have matching “Gypsy’ and “Wee Gypsy” tanks, and she has named her little play café “Wee Gypsy” because she loves it so much.
  3.  Lawson NZ: My favourite pick for boys clothing! They create modern, edgy clothing and also cater for girls as well. I love that their tights and pants are designed with extra length, meaning that they will last a lot longer than your average pair of pants.. and that’s always a bonus when you have kids.
  4. Amelia Lee: Beautifully made, vintage items with modern flair. This is a fairly new favourite clothing boutique of mine and I will definitely remain a customer for as long as possible. I recently received a custom made dress for my daughter and it is stunning! I have my eye on the bloomers in the upcoming re stock on the 10th of April.
  5. Blush Baby Boutique : Another favourite for modernised, vintage pieces. I love everything this lady creates. The quality of her clothing is always amazing, her colour combinations are gorgeous and she creates clothing and accessories for both boys and girls. We have a few favourites already, and many  on the wish list!
  6. Thomas Pie : This lady creates super funky clothing and I love that she offers “knee pads” as an extra for pants, this is great for crawlers and definitely on my list to get. We love the quilted vest that we received in our Little Big Crate order, which you can see here. The rompers are also a favourite of ours, and I have my eye on the black soft cord one!

Each of these small clothing businesses provides high quality items that are built to last. They are comfortable, stylish and made with the child in mind. We have thrashed many of our favourites and they are still in excellent condition.

Oh hey “INSTA-MUM” !- My top 8 mums of Instagram.

Insta-mums are hot topic at the moment, they are everywhere and their lifestyles/ opinions/ images etc are highly debated through social media. Some critics say they’re over seeing “perfect lives” and ‘pretty pictures” of an Insta-mums day to day life.. the ones with the fabulously dressed kids, happy family snaps and spotless homes. They never have a hair out of place and parenting looks like a walk in the park. Some people love those “real” Insta-mums with their posts of the dishes full to the brim in the sink, and the kids still in their PJ’s at 2PM. They eat lollies for breakfast and treat their Instagram like an open diary.

Instagram is a reel of well thought out captions, images and hash tags. Regardless of what anyone else says, none of it is “real life” Whatever your personal preference, there is no doubt that you will connect with mothers all over Instagram who are similar to you, and you may even make a few life long friends. Hashtag #instamum and start exploring !
